Who we are
Woodworking by John LLC is a custom woodworking business operated by John White, located in Lexington, South Carolina. Our website address is https://woodworkingbyjohn.com.
What information we collect
We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it to us. This includes:
- Contact form submissions: your name, email address, phone number (optional), and the content of your message.
- Measurement submissions: body measurements and related details you enter into our online measurement form when you request a custom-fit rocking chair.
- Order-related information: delivery address, billing details, and any other information you provide during the custom order process.
We do not collect personal information passively through the website beyond standard server logs and the cookies and browser storage described below.
How we use your information
Information you provide is used solely to:
- Respond to your inquiry or message.
- Process and fulfill your custom order.
- Communicate with you about your project, measurements, timeline, and delivery.
- Honor our lifetime warranty and customer service commitments.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or any other commercial purpose.
Service providers we use
To run our business, we use a small number of trusted service providers that may process information you provide:
- Email: standard email service used to receive and respond to your messages.
- Payment processing: Square, Inc. processes deposit and final payments. Square handles your payment card or ACH information directly—we never see or store your full card number. Square’s own privacy practices apply to that data.
- Shipping: if you ship a chair through a freight carrier (such as TSI Shipping or uShip), we share only the information needed to arrange pickup and delivery: name, delivery address, and contact phone number.
- Web hosting: our website is hosted by a commercial hosting provider that may maintain standard server access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamp) for security and operational purposes.
Cookies and local browser storage
This website uses only cookies and local browser storage that are necessary for the site to function or to improve your experience while using it. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or any cookies or storage that identify you as an individual to third parties.
Strictly necessary cookies. These include session cookies set by WordPress and a small number of cookies set by our contact form for spam prevention and form integrity.
Measurement guide progress (local browser storage). When you use our online measurement guide, your progress is saved automatically in your own browser using a feature called localStorage. This lets you close the page and return later to pick up where you left off. The saved data stays on your device only — it is not transmitted to us until you click Submit at the end of the guide. The saved data automatically expires and is cleared from your browser after 30 days of inactivity, and is cleared immediately on successful submission. You can also clear this data at any time using your browser’s “Clear site data” or “Clear browsing data” controls.
Sticky call-to-action dismissal (session storage). If you dismiss the floating “Start Your Rocker” button on the site, that dismissal is remembered in your browser using sessionStorage so the button stays hidden for the rest of your browsing session. This data is cleared automatically when you close the browser tab.
Analytics. If we use a privacy-respecting analytics service in the future to understand which pages visitors find useful, we will use it in a way that does not identify individual visitors and will list it here. We do not currently use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any cross-site tracking technologies.
How long we retain your data
Contact form submissions, measurement records, and order-related correspondence are retained for as long as necessary to fulfill your order and honor our lifetime warranty and customer service commitments. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us directly, subject to any legal or record-keeping obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your data (subject to any legal retention requirements).
- Clear any data the site has saved locally in your own browser using your browser’s “Clear site data” or “Clear browsing data” controls.
To exercise any of these rights for data we hold, contact us at contact@woodworkingbyjohn.com.
Security
We take reasonable precautions to protect your personal information, including delivering the website over HTTPS and limiting access to data stored on our systems. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-party links
Our website includes links to third-party websites such as suppliers, shipping services, and material manufacturers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies separately.
Children’s privacy
Our website and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
