Terms and Conditions — Woodworking by John LLC
Last updated: May 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the woodworkingbyjohn.com website (the “Site”) and any orders placed with Woodworking by John LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”), a limited liability company located in Lexington, South Carolina. By using the Site or placing an order, you agree to these Terms.
1. About this Site
This Site is an informational and commercial website for Woodworking by John LLC. It describes our custom rocking chairs, wood turning, furniture restoration, and other woodworking services, and allows you to contact us, submit body measurements, request quotes, and arrange custom orders.
Local browser storage. To improve usability, the Site uses limited local browser storage (such as localStorage and sessionStorage) on your own device — for example, to save your progress in the online measurement guide so you can return later, and to remember a dismissal of a site-wide call-to-action button for the rest of your browsing session. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us as a result of being stored. Details and how to clear this data are described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Custom orders
Each Authentic Rocker by John and other custom-made piece is built to order for a specific customer based on the measurements, specifications, and preferences provided by that customer. Custom pieces are not stock items and are not produced for resale.
Order confirmation. An order is confirmed when (a) we have received your measurements and project specifications, (b) we have agreed on wood species, finish, options, and timeline, and (c) you have paid the deposit described below. Until all three steps are complete, no slot is reserved on our production schedule.
Customer-supplied information. You are responsible for the accuracy of any measurements, specifications, addresses, and other information you provide. We build to the information we receive. Pieces built correctly to inaccurate or estimated measurements are not eligible for refund, replacement, or rebuilding under our satisfaction or warranty terms. Please see our Satisfaction Guarantee for full details on what is and is not covered.
Cancellation by the customer. Because each custom piece is unique to the buyer, deposits become non-refundable once we have begun design, measurement review, or material ordering for your specific project. If you need to cancel, contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you on what, if any, refund is reasonable based on the work already performed and materials already committed.
Cancellation by us. We reserve the right to decline or cancel any order at our discretion. If we cancel an order before work has begun, we will refund any deposit you have paid in full.
3. Pricing and payment
Pricing. Published prices on the Site apply to the configurations and options described on the relevant page. Final pricing for your order will be confirmed in writing before any deposit is collected. Prices may change at any time for future orders but will not change for an order once the deposit has been paid.
Payment terms. Custom orders are paid in two installments: a 50% deposit at order (to reserve your build slot and cover materials) and the remaining 50% at completion, before delivery or pickup.
Payment processing. Payments are processed securely through Square, Inc. You will receive an invoice or payment link by email at each payment stage. Square accepts major credit and debit cards as well as ACH bank transfer. We do not see or store your full card number. Square’s own terms and privacy practices apply to your payment data.
Late final payment. Completed pieces will not be released for delivery or pickup until the balance has been paid in full. If final payment has not been received within 30 days of completion, we may, after reasonable notice, treat the order as abandoned and retain the deposit and the piece to recover costs.
Sales tax. Applicable South Carolina sales tax will be added where required by law.
4. Timeline and production
Estimated timelines posted on the Site include wait list, construction, and finishing and are good-faith estimates, not guarantees. Actual lead times may vary based on the wait list, wood availability, finish cure times, and weather conditions that affect the workshop. We will keep you informed of meaningful changes to your timeline.
5. Materials and natural variation
All pieces are made from real, kiln-dried hardwood. Wood is a natural material, and variation in color, grain, figure, knot pattern, and texture is inherent and expected. Photos on the Site and in any approval samples are representative; your finished piece will not be identical to any photograph or to any prior piece. These natural variations are not defects.
Finished pieces may continue to change subtly over time: cherry and walnut may shift in color under light exposure, oiled finishes will mellow, and outdoor pieces will weather. This is normal and is part of owning real wood furniture.
6. Delivery, shipping, and risk of loss
Local pickup and delivery. Pickup at the workshop or delivery within 50 miles of Lexington, SC (zip 29072) is free. Risk of loss transfers to you when you take possession of the piece.
Carrier shipping. For shipments outside the local area, the carrier is arranged either by us (white glove options such as TSI Shipping or uShip, at your cost) or directly by you. In either case, once the crated piece is handed off to the carrier in good condition, risk of loss transfers from us to you and the carrier. We strongly recommend full-value freight insurance, and we recommend that you or the receiving party inspect the crate at delivery and note any visible damage on the carrier’s paperwork before signing.
Our Satisfaction Guarantee page describes our crating, inspection, and shipping arrangements in more detail.
7. Warranty and satisfaction
Every Authentic Rocker by John is covered by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, along with the satisfaction commitments described on our Satisfaction Guarantee page. That page is the authoritative source for warranty coverage, exclusions, claim procedures, and customer service commitments. To the extent of any conflict between these Terms and the Satisfaction Guarantee, the Satisfaction Guarantee controls with respect to warranty coverage of Authentic Rockers.
Other custom pieces (turnings, restorations, other custom furniture) are covered by warranty terms agreed in writing for that specific project. Where no specific warranty is agreed, we warrant our workmanship against defects for a period of one year from delivery.
8. Intellectual property
The content of this Site—including text, photographs, drawings, designs, diagrams, the Authentic Rocker by John name and signature mark, and all other original materials—is owned by Woodworking by John LLC or used with permission. You may view and print content for personal, non-commercial reference. You may not copy, republish, resell, or use our content or marks in connection with another business without our prior written permission.
Each Authentic Rocker is signed and identified as such; that signature and designation may not be applied to, transferred to, or implied for any chair or piece we did not build.
9. Acceptable use of the Site
You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes. You will not attempt to disrupt the Site, gain unauthorized access to any portion of it, scrape it for commercial purposes, submit false information through any form, or use it to transmit malicious code. We may suspend or block access for any user who violates these rules.
10. Disclaimers
The Site, including all guides, instructions, fitting information, recommendations, and other content, is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no representation that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from inaccuracies. Content on the Site is for general informational purposes and is not professional engineering, medical, ergonomic, or legal advice.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose with respect to the Site itself. Warranty terms for custom pieces are governed by Section 7 and the Satisfaction Guarantee, not by this disclaimer.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Woodworking by John LLC, or its owner, employees, or contractors, be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind arising out of or related to your use of the Site or any custom piece, including loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of use, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of an order or a custom piece will not exceed the total amount you paid us for that piece. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Woodworking by John LLC from any third-party claim arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your misuse of the Site, or (c) inaccurate information you supplied for a custom order.
13. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or any custom order will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Lexington County or Richland County, South Carolina, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Changes apply to use of the Site and to new orders placed after the change. Orders already confirmed by deposit are governed by the Terms in effect at the time of the deposit.
